Relationship to the U.S. Department of Education
San Jacinto College maintains a good relationship with the U. S. Department of Education by submitting and maintaining a properly executed “Program Participation Agreement” (PPA). In addition, the college’s good standing is confirmed through annual independent audits along with occasional program reviews performed by the Department of Education Regional Team.
The current “Program Participation Agreement” (PPA) will expire on June 30, 2007. The application for recertification of the PPA will be submitted by 3/31/07. A committee composed of the effected departments will prepare the application. The application will then be forwarded to the Administration for approval.
San Jacinto College compliance with the laws and regulations that are applicable to the FSA programs in which the school participates is verified, at least once a year, by an independent auditor. The independent auditor also conducts an audit of the school’s financial statements (a financial statement audit). SJC has always received an unqualified opinion. For this reason, the college has never been placed on direct reimbursement of federal funds.
In addition, San Jacinto College has welcomed other audits and program reviews as determine by the U.S. Department of Education or the Office of the Inspector General. The most recent program review of the Title IV federal student aid programs administered at San Jacinto College occurred during the week of September 13-16, 2004. The program review report contained 4 findings. These finding were resolved and accepted within the timeframe allowed. As a result, the college was able to maintain a good status.
