PASADENA, Texas – Christie Dorch, a Friendswood native and transfer from the University of New Hampshire, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball and continue her education at San Jacinto College next season.

The 6-0 rightside hitter played in 15 matches last season for the Wildcats, averaging 1.50 kills per game, 0.41 digs per game and 0.25 blocks per game. As a senior at Friendswood High School in 2007 she notched 383 kills and posted a school-record .523 hitting percentage. She also recorded 82 digs and 118 blocks, while her match highs included 22 kills and 10 blocks. In 2004 and 2005, Dorch was named to the Texas Region 3 All-District team with an All-State selection in 2006. In 2006, Dorch also earned a place on the Northwest All-Tournament team.

“Christie is an athletic and dynamic player with a great deal of experience in successful programs,” said San Jac Head Coach Sharon Nelson. “She adds leadership, solid offense and defense, and a winning attitude. We are looking forward to the addition of Christie and her experience to the 2009 team.”

In its fourth-straight trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament last Fall, San Jacinto finished the 2008 season fifth in the nation with a record of 33-3. The fifth-place finish was the best ever under Nelson, who has coached San Jacinto College for seven seasons.

San Jac opens the 2009 season August 28-29 at the Texas Tornado Tournament in Houston, and will open the 2009 home season Tuesday, September 1 against Temple College. For a complete 2009 schedule, and more information about San Jacinto College volleyball, visit www.sanjacsports.com.
