PASADENA, Texas – Holly Moreno, a transfer from St. Mary’s University, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at San Jacinto College next season.

Moreno, a 6-0 middle blocker, played in 15 matches for the Rattlers as a freshman, averaging 1.89 kills, 0.78 digs and 0.35 blocks per game. She reached double figure kills once, against Texas A&M-International, with 13. Her season-high four blocks came against Texas-Permian Basin in the season finale.

“Holly adds maturity and strength to our sophomore class next season,” said San Jac Head Coach Sharon Nelson. “She is extremely competitive and trains with drive and purpose. We look to her to add a great deal to our team.”

Moreno was a three-time all-district player at Pearland High School, where she also earned all-state honors for head coach John Turner. As a senior she earned first-team all-district, academic all-district, academic all-state and all-tournament honors at two tournaments. She helped lead Pearland to a bi-district championship in 2006 and the regional quarterfinals in 2004. Off the court, Moreno earned the Principal’s Award, was a member of the honor roll, the Spanish honor roll and the Science Honor Society.

In its fourth-straight trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament last Fall, San Jacinto finished the 2008 season fifth in the nation with a record of 33-3. The fifth-place finish was the best ever under Nelson, who has coached San Jacinto College for seven seasons.
