HOUSTON – Sophomores Kelsey McClain and Courtney Pettit, and freshmen Rae Cassel and Courtnee Oliphant have earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) postseason honors.
McClain and Pettit, who broke a combined eight school records this season, were named to the all-Region XIV first team, the NFCA Midwest Region first team, and were second team NFCA all-Americans.
McClain (Pasadena / Pasadena Memorial High School) broke three individual pitching records this season, finishing the year with a solid 31-7 overall record. She has been playing softball for over 16 years, and will continue her softball and education career at McNeese State University next season.
Pettit, an infielder from Deer Park, set school records in hits (92), homeruns (14), doubles (20), RBI (64) and put outs (432) after just one season at San Jacinto College. She will play next year at the University of Houston – Victoria.
Cassel, from Deer Park (Deer Park High School), was named to the all-Region XIV second team, NFCA Midwest Region first team, and was a third-team NFCA all-American selection. She finished the season with a .407 batting average behind 81 hits, including 10 doubles and 33 RBI.
Oliphant hit .429 this season for San Jac, earning a spot on the all-Region XIV second team and the NFCA Midwest Region second team. The Spring native, along with Cassel, will return to the field next season for San Jac.
“The awards they received were much deserved by each of them,” said Head Coach Kelly Saenz, who just completed her sixth season at the helm of the San Jac program. “It was a good way to end the season with this recognition.”
San Jac finished the season with an overall record of 43-19, 23-9 in conference play, and a sixth-place finish at the Region XIV tournament.
