Softball moves to 15th in latest NJCAA poll

HOUSTON – The San Jacinto College softball team is ranked 15th in the nation in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll released this week.

With an overall record of 34-13, San Jac moved into the national rankings after being un-ranked last week.

San Jac is led by sophomore pitcher Kelsey McClain, who is 24-3 on the year with a 1.088 ERA. McClain has signed a letter of intent to continue her education and softball career at McNeese State University.

On offense, San Jac is led by a trio of players in sophomore Courtney Pettit, and freshmen Courtnee Oliphant and Rae Cassel. Pettit is hitting .412 behind 63 hits, including a team-leading 11 home runs, 42 RBI and 15 doubles. Oliphant’s .393 is third on the team. She is second with nine doubles. Cassel leads all hitters with a .427 average, including a team-best 64 hits.

As a team, SJC is hitting .340.

San Jac will open a four-game home stand this Wednesday, April 15, against Alvin. All games are played at the San Jacinto College South campus, located at 13735 Beamer Road in Houston.
