PASADENA, Texas – The San Jacinto College men’s basketball team announced its 2009-2010 schedule this week, which begins with six-straight home games on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 against Lone Star – Cy Fair.
The 2009-2010 men’s basketball squad will host 16 games during the regular season, including the annual Sam Cassell Classic Nov. 6-7, in which San Jac will face Lone Star – Tomball and Richland College. Region XIV home games include Coastal Bend Community College (Nov. 10), Lamar State – Port Arthur (Nov. 24), Lon Morris (Dec. 5), Blinn College (Jan. 13), Trinity Valley Community College (Jan. 20), Panola College (Jan. 27), Kilgore College (Feb. 3), Jacksonville College (Feb. 6), Lee College (Feb. 13), and Angelina College (Feb. 24). San Jac will also face Lone Star – Kingwood, Temple College, and Collin County Community College at home.
“This is an early start to conference play,” said Head Coach Scott Gernander, who is entering his 23rd year at the helm of the San Jac program. “We only have seven games to get ready (for conference play), so I think we’re going to grow up in a hurry. This is probably the most balanced region in the country, and I know we’ll be ready to play.”
San Jac’s schedule is a balance of home and away matches, as SJC will face 13 opponents on the road, most during the conference season, including the last game of the season Feb. 27 at Blinn.
The 2010 Region XIV tournament will be played March 4-8 at the University of Texas at Tyler. The national championship tournament once again returns to Hutchinson, Kan., March 16-20, 2010.
Last season, San Jac advanced to the quarterfinals of the Region XIV tournament before falling to Lon Morris. San Jac returns just two starters from last year’s 20-12 team that saw three players move on to NCAA Division I institutions.
All San Jac men’s basketball home games are played at Anders Gymnasium on the San Jacinto College Central campus, located at 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena. For a complete 2009-2010 schedule and more information about San Jacinto College men’s basketball, please visit www.sanjacsports.com.
